Disneyland in Your 30s

When we entered the park the magical atmosphere was contagious and the smell of candies and popcorn overwhelming. It's like getting high. We were there around 10 AM to avoid the long lines of the late morning and afternoon. Remember to start your day at Disneyland as early as possible; this will give you the chance to be first in line for the best attractions. My first and favorite ride was Indiana Jones Adventure, a fast-paced thrill ride aboard a rugged troop transport that ventures deep inside a cursed temple. This attraction will give you the right kick to start your adventure, and it will set your expectations for the rest of your adventure. If you want to enjoy the park at your own pace without worrying about lines you can use the Fastpass. It's an automatic ticketing system that will give you a specific time to go back to that attraction and skip the line. We used it a couple of times, and it was convenient. There are two different types of attractions, the ones that make you scream and the ones that will entertain you.

The ones that will make you scream: Indiana Jones Adventure, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Hyperspace Mountain, Matterhorn Bobsleds. All these attractions are very fast, and they can make you feel dizzy. My advice is to keep the Hyperspace for last and make sure you digested your food.

The ones that are entertaining: Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Tours, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, Haunted Mansion, Enchanted Tiki Room

Around 5 PM we were done with the rides. We wanted to wait for a couple of hours to see the 8 PM Parade with all the Disney characters, but we weren't sure how to spend the remaining time as we weren't hungry either. There are no places where they serve alcohol, but there is one little spot outside of the park where they do, and of course, kids are not allowed after 8 PM. We decided it was time to leave the park and we got a stamp at the door to be able to go back for the 10 PM Parade. Best decision ever. Trader's Sam Enchanted Tiki Bar is a small cute bar located in the Disneyland Hotel. Cocktails are fantastic and also the food is excellent. We had tuna tartare and shrimp tacos. When it was time to go back to the park, we were tipsy and ready to enjoy the magical Parade.

Food in Disneyland is not great, maybe because it has to cater to thousands of people every day. The best thing you can do is to indulge in your guilty pleasures. By the Enchanted Tiki Room, there is a little stand where you can taste the fabulous Dole Pineapple Whip or Float (the first is pineapple non-diary ice cream, the second is served in a glass, and it's like the first one but with pineapple juice added at the bottom). You have to try it. To top off the day of guilty pleasures my husband had a homemade corn dog and I had cotton candy.

Do not forget to stay hydrated during your Disneyland adventure. This is important under the hot sun, and it can also help you if you feel dizzy in between rides.

Best Western Plus Anaheim ten minutes walk from the park. Nice and convenient.
