Pregnancy can be hard. I never got the pregnancy glow that women talk about. Instead, I got morning sickness for the first three months and acid reflux throughout the pregnancy. I wasn’t prepared for this, and I wish I had the tools to make things better. I SO wish I knew how to use meditation during pregnancy.

Some women love being pregnant, and others don’t, but all women face challenges during either pregnancy, delivery, or postpartum. That’s the reality. And we, as women, should talk more about these hard times. Whether you’re currently pregnant or planning to have a child, meditation is an excellent tool to relax, reset, and connect with your child.

When people think about meditation, they often picture a person with eyes closed in the lotus pose somewhere in nature. Yes, meditation can be that, but it’s also many other things. Meditation can be focusing on the breath, focusing on mantras, or focusing on images in the third eye. My favorite type of meditation is visualization.

I use visualization for myself and my clients because I believe it’s a powerful tool to connect with your higher self, receive guidance, and heal. Visualization entails imagining scenes using the third eye and immersing into these scenes by filling them with details and using the senses to truly be in these imaginary places.

You can choose a guided meditation, like the one that I created for moms-to-be, or you can create these scenes yourself. You can use meditation during pregnancy to process your emotions, let go of control, and connect with your child. Here are three ideas for meditation during pregnancy:

Create your ideal pregnancy

If you’re pregnant and struggling, or if you simply want to enhance your experience, imagine yourself having the pregnancy that you’d like to have. Close your eyes, take long breaths, place your hands on your belly, and imagine yourself in happy moments throughout the pregnancy. Imagine waking up without symptoms, enjoying your favorite food, and having a lot of energy and strength. Use your five senses if you can. If you’re planning to have a child, do this exercise to call in your baby and imagine taking the pregnancy test and seeing that it’s positive.

Connect with your baby

Close your eyes, take long breaths, place your hands on your belly, and picture your growing baby at this moment. As you keep on breathing, imagine your baby surrounded and protected by golden light (symbolizing your womb), feel your baby connecting with your breath and taking oxygen through you. Feel that you’re breathing together. With every breath feel the connection with your baby becoming stronger and stronger. If you’re planning to have a child, do this exercise to connect with the soul of your child that is about to incarnate into the body of your baby.

Create your ideal delivery

This is similar to the first point. Close your eyes, take long breaths, place your hands on your belly, and imagine the delivery experience that you want. Go through all the steps. The more details you see the better it is. Imagine being in the room of the hospital and everything going smoothly. This exercise will help you attract the experience you want through the law of attraction. A word of caution here. Delivery is unpredictable. Do this exercise to attract the best outcome, but stay open, and cultivate the strength to face the unpredictable.
