The Lack of Feminine Energy in Motherhood (nothing to do with gender)

There’s a lack of feminine energy in motherhood, but this has nothing to do with gender.

Many mothers struggle when they become mothers because they’re not used to nurturing their feminine energy.


Take a breath. Pause. You have landed here for a reason. Feel this energy gently inviting you to receive.


In my work with clients over these years, I saw how many women grew up with authoritarian parents (often the father figure) who didn’t make them feel good enough. As adults, they become overachievers and/or perfectionists, and they do so unconsciously to prove to their caregivers that they’re good enough.

This overachieving part is the overactive masculine energy.

What are feminine and masculine energies?

The feminine is the inner world, presence, creativity, and nurturing part. The masculine is action, movement, and transformation. We need both, but in this world, the masculine is rewarded, so women foster the masculine to survive instead of leaning into the beauty of slowing down and tuning into their intuition.

Things weren’t always like this. Many ancient tribes sat in Council before making any decisions and asked:

“Will this action we wish to take honor the feminine?”

This would be a great way to shape society, but we lost all of that.

Between this masculine world that rewards action and hard work, and the difficult upbringing that didn’t make them feel good enough, many women prioritize their masculine side and struggle to slow down and listen to their intuition. Because if they stop, they’re afraid to be crushed.

When the transition to motherhood occurs

When motherhood comes into the picture, many women are not used to nurturing their feminine side. They get caught up in the constant doing because mothers are expected to do it all and well. But this is the internalized voice of the patriarchal system.

In addition to societal expectations, past and ancestral wounds come to the surface. It’s a lot to deal with all the daily tasks and the inner turmoil. Nobody prepares mothers for these challenges. They don’t have tools and don’t feel comfortable sharing how they feel because they fear judgment.

When mothers have a few minutes available, they go back to doing rather than slowing down, reconnecting with the breath, and recentering. This contributes to extreme exhaustion and burnout, and may develop into postpartum depression and anxiety.

Remember the divine feminine in motherhood

In all of this, there’s often little space for the divine feminine, which invites you back into presence, receptivity, and intuition. You begin to remember your feminine power when you slow down. This is the deeper invitation of motherhood, not to do more, but to return to a different rhythm of being.

As you create this space, you naturally become more present and reconnect with your intuition in a way that feels grounded and embodied. This process is part of a deeper inner transformation. I explore this journey more fully in The Path of the Spiritual Mother.
